Through this project, I collaborated with Kwant Controls to develop the industrial design of haptic ship controls. Haptics in vessel controls is a new technology, in its infancy of implementation. Most of the current implementation is in controls with a
similar design to previous ones. This is a point of possible innovation in ship controls. The focus of this project is on the industrial design of ship controls for haptic implementation.
The final product is a Haptic Azimuth Controller for remote operation. The controller is designed with ergonomics in mind for long periods of remote operation.
The shape allows you to rest your hand on the controls. This makes it “more likely” for the haptics to be noticed. The controller’s shape provides a variety of grips to reduce fatigue.
