BAPD3100: Critical reflection in design practice
By Borgar Klove Sandnes and Ignasi Monfort Amat
We have created a game experience that leans on collaboration between the players. We believe that
in the majority of games there is too much focus on competition, this is why we chose to focus our project around co-operation.
in the majority of games there is too much focus on competition, this is why we chose to focus our project around co-operation.
The game’s purpose is to promote co-operation and collaboration as a response to the increase of othering in society. Through its gameplay, it comments on structures of powers and the responsibility of those who have the most.
The game creates an environment of collaboration between players and reinforces confidence in teamplay. The players contribute to the success of the group by working together while making sure that everyone gets to contribute.
Don’t let the currents take you away!

In the course “Critical Reflection in Design Practice” our assignment was to choose one, out of three, themes and design a product in response to the chosen theme. For our project we chose to go with the theme: “Design that moves”. With this theme we could make anything we wanted “as long as it has a moving part”.
We chose to work in a group because of our shared interest with technology, specifically gadgets. We had all but delivered our design brief when we had second thoughts about the project. During this process, we talked a lot about games and politics, interests we shared in addition to the formerly mentioned. We talked about Nationalism, the difficulty of border crossings, how borders divide people and how this creates a feeling of othering. This was when we felt we had to do something different.
Our project is grounded in the concept of othering. Or rather in working against it. We believe that the world is built around competitive behaviour, but could benefit from more co-operation. We want to foster co- operation and working together through design. We want to do this in the context of play: through a game.
